What Are You?

Today's message is based on Hebrews 2:6-9:
6But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man that thou visitest him?
7Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:
8Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.
9But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
The main sermon points are:

You are created (video link:  Louie Giglio - Laminin)
You are remembered
You are loved
You are visited
You are valued

Palm Sunday: What Does This Mean For Me?

Today's sermon examined the triumphal entry as recorded in John 12:12-16:
12On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
14And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
15Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.
16These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
The points of our sermon were:

Jesus is approachable
Jesus is the King
Jesus is the Conqueror
Jesus is our dwelling place

Note:  Before the sermon, a congregation member, Tom Burns, discusses Bible memorization.  We are going to recommit to memorizing a scripture verse every week.  Our verses will go in sequence through a chapter of the Bible.  This week's memory verse is Romans 6:1 - What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

New Life

This morning's sermon was about the new life that Christ offers.  We studied our new life from the perspectives of

  • Loss of a loved one
  • Loss of a relationship
  • Loss of vision

Our study passage is found in Joshua 1:1-8 -
1 After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. 3 I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. 4 Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. 5 No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.
7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
During the sermon, Pastor showed a video to the congregation.  Our evangelism team shares the gospel at the local bus station each week; last week, young Matthew Kunkel preached for the first time.  His father was present to record part of his message.  Click this link to watch it.

Mike Johnson's Funeral

We were saddened by the passing of our dear friend, Mike Johnson, on March 11.  He was a man dedicated to serving Christ and the people He died for.  We rejoice in the knowledge that Mike is happily rejoicing with His savior now, and the longing of his heart is fulfilled, but we will greatly miss him.
Mike's life is exemplified in this verse:
2 Timothy 4:7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Possessing Christ

Today's message was on possessing all of Christ:

Possessing His promise
Possessing the Son
Possessing His victory
Possessing His city

The scripture text is found in Deuteronomy 31:1-6:
1And Moses went and spake these words unto all Israel.
2And he said unto them, I am an hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: also the LORD hath said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan.
3The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said.
4And the LORD shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, kings of the Amorites, and unto the land of them, whom he destroyed.
5And the LORD shall give them up before your face, that ye may do unto them according unto all the commandments which I have commanded you.
6Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
